The story below was given to me by Lindsey Baber telling of her husband Andy ‘swanning’ around South America!
“Like it or not, the World Cup Soccer in Brazil is certainly a hot topic of conversation. One of Cootamundra’s local soccer fanatics, Andy Baber, is right there in the thick of it, staying in Sao’ Paulo with his friend Peter, and Pete’s wife Marta, who just happens to be Brazilian, and has family there.
They have attended three matches , watched the downfall of the Aussie team, and have been having fun coping with the crowds, the traffic, the distances and the eleven million, eight hundred and twenty one thousand, eight hundred and seventy population !
Andy does hail from the mother country and was “born into soccer”, however it’s taken him 72 years to realise his dream of attending a World Cup.
He’ll be back, with lots of stories I guess, towards the end of July.”

A FIRST-CLASS MOVIE
This week The Tin Shed Theatre will be showing Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks, a top-notch movie which featured in the last round of the Academy Awards.
Based on a true story, Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the US container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. A complex portrait of the myriad effects of globalism.
Screening times TODAY at 10.30am and again at 7pm, THEN on sunday next July 6 at 5pm.
BLUE & WHITE BALL
The Annual Blue and White Ball is set to take place this Saturday night in the Cootamundra Town Hall. The starting time is 6pm for 6.30pm.

MEMORIES OF ANNE
It is with sadness that we make mention the passing of an ‘icon’ of Cootamundra Mrs Anne Rees OAM.
Lovely lady Anne passed away peacefully at Tea Gardens on Saturday last, June 28.
SOOO many memories flood back of the many groups and organisations Anne was involved with during her lifetime here, the Wiradjuri Group, Stockinbingal CWA, a member of the Executive Committee of the NSW State Branch of CWA (but Anne once commented her role in CWA as a cultural officer was certainly one of her most rewarding.) She was made a Life Member of CWA.
She was involved with Girl Guides, held down the secretary of the Stockinbingal Bowling Club and was president of CADAS for a number of years, yet another role she recalls as being extremely rewarding (I personally remeber appearing on stage with Anne in many a CADAS production. One smiles when one remembers.)
SYMPATHY is extended to Anne’s children and family at this sad time.
