Warmest Wishes to Kylie Bush (from la Faye) who celebrated her birthday on Monday last. Feel sure that her husband Jeremiah and their cute baby boy Jasper presented her with a special gift and birthday cake.
Happy birthday to Merralee Gordon who was the birthday girl yesterday.
AND hey, hey, happy birthday to one of Cootamundra’s top ladies Lindsey Baber who TODAY celebrates her birthday.
Also celebrating their birthdays this week are Mrs Beryl McPhail and Jo Chester.
MOVIE TIME
Looking for somewhere to go TODAY - the movie ‘Jobs’ starring Ashton Kutcher, James Wood and Josh Gad is screening at 10.30am in the Tin Shed Theatre at the Arts Centre, then again this evening at 7pm. Remember that the theatre is ‘snuggly warm’.
Then on sunday next the above movie will screen at 5pm.
Top upcoming movies set to be screening in the Tin Shed Theatre are Philomena, the Grand Budapest Hotel, Hope springs, the Railway Man and so the list goes on. Stay tuned.
U3A GROUP
And so the school term has begun and the U3A Group is once again ‘back in action” -
TODAY at 2.30pm, Jenny Beath will bring us an “Introduction to Hypnotherapy”. Jenny has had her own hypnotherapy practice for some time, and will tell us of the background and explanation of the practice, how it works, and the psychology behind hypnotherapy. Fascinating stuff.
On Friday (18th July) from 11.00am to 12 noon, the film will be the documentary “Wet Tropics” from Australian Geographic.
In this documentary we travel from the Daintree to Paluma Range, revealing ancient forests, vibrant wildlife, and enduring Aboriginal culture. You will discover why the Wet Tropics rainforest is world renowned, experience scientific research, and explore the stunning Hinchinbrook Island coast. Featuring all-original footage, “Wet Tropics” is produced and presented by writer and photographer Sorrel Wilby. An armchair adventure.
SEE YOU THERE
“MR THEATRE’S” PASSING
For those of you who remember (with affection) Colin Anderson will be saddned to hear of his passing last week. Colin played a BIG PART in introducing the world of theatre to Wagga back in the 1970’s and 1980’s when he moved to Wagga in 1973 to take up a position as drama lecturer at the Riverina Colleg of Education, a forerunner of charles Sturt University (CSU).
Life was always a stage for “Mr Theatre” and he made a lasting impact on the Wagga Theatrical scene over a period of 20 years directing, acting and encouraging productions through Rivcol Drama, the Wagga School of Arts, Wagga Theatre Company and the Children’s Theatre Workshop.
His theatrical genius covered writing, directing and acting across a range of musicals, dramas, comedies and classic theatre (I know that a bus load of Coota people would leave here for Wagga to delight in Colin’s performanceas eg. Cabaret, Stop the world I Want to Get Off, Camelot, Evita, By Bye Birdie, and so the list goes on.) He last performed on stage in Wagga back in 1992 in “The Dresser” - his performace received rave reviews.
Colin came to Cootamundra to CADAS Workshops, to produce plays, and I fondly remember after a workshop, going out to the Stockinbingal home of the late John and Anne Rees for a ‘long’ dinner after one of his Coota Workshops.
I smile as I remember Mr Theatre who passed away just a few weeks short of his 77th birthday. VALE Colin.
CAN YOU HELP?
Seems that at this time of year ‘happy news stories’ are in short supply! I am ‘struggling’ to fill the Around Cootamundra page due to a shortage of news appropriate to this page (Sooo pleased to be heading North shortly - so on my return our Wattle Time Events will be in ‘full swing’ and there will be heaps of happy events to report on.)
I know MANY enjoy reading the Around cootamundra page, so do help out by contributing please!
