I HAVE been reading with interest the problems which are arising about costs at Cootamundra Cemetery. Having both of my parents buried at Wagga Wagga Lawn Cemetery I was prompted to check whether the same ruling applies there.
My mother passed away in 1992 and my father in 2004 and I have been reassured by the Wagga Cemetery Office that as I am in possession of that plot, there will be no further charges to myself or my family should we wish to use any of it, apart from their usual re-opening fees.
Council allows grave sites and cremation gardens to be reserved by way of a reservation deposit being paid to the Cemetery office, with the balance to be payable when the gravesite or cremation garden is used.
It seemed apparent from talking to them that they have received many enquiries as to whether they operate in the same way Cootamundra Council does!
I think many questions need to be asked of this Council as to how this money has been handled in the past and why hasn’t there been forward planning to cover the costs of maintaining and/or upgrading where necessary?
