SUNDAY VOLUNTEERS
I do so enjoy my occasional Sunday morning volunteer stint at the Visitors Information Centre. It’s a great opportunity to promote our town and also meet a range of interesting people who call there.
I was on duty last Sunday, had some fun people call in and a few friends called by. We were delighted to note the Pickled Pantry is again open for business on Sundays and we enjoyed a takeaway coffee and hot chocolate from there.
If you able to offer your time as a volunteer on the occasional Sunday morning, do be in touch with The Arts Centre on 6942 4773.
U3A THIS WEEK
Today at 2.30pm, Guest Speaker Don Manwaring will chat on “The History of Bowls in Cootamundra.”
Since retiring from a business career, Don has been able to devote more time to this fascinating sport, and the U3A group are all looking forward to his recounting the history of bowls in our town. We are reliably informed that publican Patrick Fagan introduced lawn bowls to Cootamundra, and Dr JJ Brennan was the first president of the Cootamundra Bowling Club in 1900. Don will bring us up to date on what has been happening in the intervening years.
And speaking of lawn bowls, at 9.30 am tomorrow July 24, “Try Lawn Bowls” will be held at the Country Club. Last week’s session was abandoned due to rain, so all would-be bowlers, you have three lessons just awaiting.
COOTA TRAVELLERS
The Coota Travellers are ‘up and at it’ once again with such a top-notch variety of bus trips planned for the new few months -
On Aguust 20 they set off for Queanbeyan to the show “Oh What a Night”.
Then on September 24 it is off to Canberra to NiteFest Floriade.
And how exciting, the bus heads for Sydney on October 8 to the Matinee performance of “Strictly Ballroom.”
Again it is back to Sydney on November 19 to see the production “Wicked” (another matinee performance.)
AND in May of next year a most interesting one week trip is in the planning to Broken Hill! WOW.
If anyone is interested in any of the above trips a phone call to top lady Nancy Sims will secure you a seat (6943 2644)
