With the Jets placed 11th on the ladder and Coota sitting at the top it was a big mismatch, however nothing can ever be taken for granted in football.
The final score on Saturday was 33.22.220 to 5.5.35.
It is not often sides crack the 200 point mark and this score was the second highest since the Blues entered AFL Canberra in 2004.
The Blues highest score in AFL Canberra was 34.26.230 to Harman’s 1.0.6 at Clarke Oval in 2005.
The Jets booted the first goal in the first minute and another two goals in the quarter, but the Blues had them covered, leading by 23 points at the first change.
The Blues responded by kicking 10 goals in each of the second and third quarters. Accuracy was not on their side in the last quarter with seven goals and eight behinds to the team’s name, however it did not make much difference in the grand scheme of things.
The Jets only looked a shadow of a team that pushed the Blues to a three goal victory in round three this season.
The wins sees the Blues maintain the lead in the competition with 13 wins and one loss. They are ahead of second placed Yass on percentage with Cootamundra’s percentage 306 and Yass 257.
Cootamundra and Yass play each other in the last home and away match with this match to decide the minor premiership.
Since defeating Yass by 17 points back on May 24, the Blues have strung together eight consecutive wins by an average winning margin of 130 points and a percentage of 601.
During this period, the Blues have booted 187 goals and only conceded 27 goals.
Sandy Maskell-Knight with eight and Chris Drum with 10 goals on Saturday look like finishing first and second in the league goal kicking count.
Maskell-Knight has moved to 51 while Drum’s massive haul sees him move to second spot with 46 goals.
While Drum and Maskell-Knight dominated in front of goals, captain/coach Luke Webb picked up plenty of disposals around the ground with his precision passing of a high class.
In recent weeks, Dylan McDermott has been in stellar form and Saturday was no exception as he picked up over 30 disposals.
Down back, Joel Pearson and Phil Bird constantly repelled many of the Jets attacking play.
Goals: Chris Drum 10, Sandy Maskell-Knight 8, James Dallas 5, Dylan McDermott 3, Ryan Miller 2, Luke Webb 2, Johnny England 1, Stephen Chant 1 and Michael Knagge 1.
Best: Chris Drum, Sandy Maskell- Knight, Luke Webb, Dylan McDermott, Phil Bird, and Joel Pearson.
Next Saturday the Blues host third placed Goulburn, who are the only team to beat the Blues this season.
Last Saturday, Goulburn struggled to defeat South Coast by two goals.
Yass were given a contest by Ainslie with the Roos winning by 25 points, Eastlake forfeited to Cooma, and Belconnen forfeited to Molonglo.
The Blues run home is Goulburn and Eastlake at home, Yass away.
