The games begin at 10am with the under 9s junior soccer team competing against Tumut at Mitchell Park, Cootamundra. Tumut are the team to beat holding the minor premiership, but Coota held them to a draw the last time they met, and have every good reason to believe they can win on the day. Cootmundra’s coach John English has praised his team’s efforts this season and thinks they have what it takes to win tomorrow. Mr English is calling on the community to come along, cheer loud and make the most of the home ground advantage.
Meanwhile in Canberra, the Cootamundra Blues are hoping to cap a fine season in their grand final against Yass Kangaroos at 11am. The Blues defeated Yass in both encounters this season thanks to superior fitness in the final quarter, and are looking to lift silverware for the first time since 1992. Turn to page nine for our four-page lift out, covering player profiles and the final remarks from club president Todd Basham, Rod Knagge, Pat Kerin and the Blues Brothers.
In the afternoon Nicholson Park will host two junior Bulldogs grand finals, the first being the under 16s girls league tag at 2pm, and in both instances Temora are the opposition. League tag coaches Graeme Cheshire and Debbie Millington have put together a comprehensive profile of all the girls and each other, mostly in good humour and certainly entertaining; worth seeing on page 15. Directly after this clash the under 14s junior league boys will be looking to add another trophy to the cabinet, but arch rivals Temora Dragons will not go down without a fight, having managed to beat the Dogs once this season.
Turn to page six for Rod Knagge’s comprehensive match preview, player profiles and photos from the successful season.
Last but certainly not the least of grand finals is the game for the first grade division B grand final for the Cootamundra Strikers. The men are set to play against Tumut in Wagga at 5pm. For the full scoop open the paper to page 14.
The Cootamundra Herald wishes all local teams the best of luck for the weekend. Play hard and play fair, we know you have it in you to win.
