This year the honour belonged to 18-year-old Chloe Waters who will now go on to zone judging and from there stands a chance to be at the Sydney Royal next Easter.
Having qualified in the cattle parading section at the Sydney Royal already, it will be a busy 12 months for the budding agricultural enthusiast.
Chloe entered the Showgirl competition wanting to be part of promoting agriculture to a wide audience.
A student at Cootamundra High School, the Showgirl competition coincided with Chloe’s HSC studies, however she gave it her all and was rewarded with the sash on Saturday.
Accepting the honour, Chloe thanked the community for making the show what it is.
“Without people coming along, the show wouldn’t exist,” Chloe said.
“I think we are lucky to have such a fantastic show as we have here in Cootamundra. I have been coming since I was little and have always enjoyed it from rides and sideshow alley to cattle parading and now being Showgirl - the show offers so much,” she said.
Chloe thanked Geoff and Heather Bush of the Cootamundra Show Society who are a pivotal part of ensuring the Showgirl competition runs smoothly.
She also thanked 2013 Showgirl Ellie Morton who maintained a presence in the Showgirl competition this year mentoring the three entrants - Chloe, Emily Fairley and Tegan Everett.
Finally, Chloe thanked her family including parents Lesley and Gary who were in the crowd cheering her on.
Anything is possible in the Showgirl competition as proved by former Cootamundra girl Brodie Chester earlier this year when she went on to be named The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl.
Brodie was back home on the weekend to officially open the 124th Cootamundra Show.
A member of the Cootamundra Show Society for many years, Brodie said she was particularly proud to be back at her home show.
Brodie was joined in officially opening the Cootamundra Show by Member for Burrinjuck Katrina Hodgkinson, who congratulated the Show Society on staging another successful event.
Ms Hodgkinson also had the pleasure and privilege of bestowing Life Membership to the Show Society on tireless volunteers Lila Collingridge and Garry and Lois James. More details on the three Life Memberships in Friday’s edition.
