IT was a case of like father, like son when Jeremy and Luke Storrier stood up together in the top 10 shootout of Saturday’s Quick Shear at the Coota Show.

Jeremy was competing in the opens with Luke in the intermediates, however a win to Luke sees him step up a class and he will now be going head to head with his dad, as well as the swag of other shearers he works with during the week with T Phillips Shearing.
So good was Luke’s time he nearly got around his dad, Luke stopping the clock at 31.87 seconds while Jeremy finished in 31.55 seconds.
Luke has been shearing for just on 14 months so has come along well while his dad has been in the shed for the best part of 25 years starting shearing when he was just 15. Luke marks the third generation of the Storrier clan to carve a living shearing with his grandfather Jim Storrier also a shearer.
There wasn’t a prouder man in the Colin Morrow Pavilion on Saturday than Jeremy, completely stoked to see his son get up for a win and join the opens.
The pair often compete in Quick Shears together with their next outing being Crookwell on November 15 - for the first time over both in the top grade.
The opens on Saturday was won by world record holder Stacey Ta Huia who competed in Coota for the second year running, loving the local competition.
There was a charity twist to this year’s Quick Shear with the entire team at T Phillips Shearing vowing to hand over any prizemoney made.
Luke was amongst it with both his intermediate win which saw him hand over $500 and being part of the Storrier Warrior team of him, his dad, Sarah Piffero and Matt Raleigh which took out the teams event. From this an extra $75 was thrown into the Can Assist kitty.
Further to this, the announcer from Dubbo’s Rogue Shearing Industries donated $50 and DJ on the day, Dean Moston from Coota also donated $50 for a total of $675 for Can Assist.
Shearing contractor Tristian Phillips, who heads T Phillips Shearing and is one of the major sponsors of the Quick Shear, said he and all of his shearers were keen to do their bit to help so he couldn’t be happier to see Luke get up for a win as well as the dynamic Storrier Warrior outfit.
Tristian extended a big thank you to Hugh and Justin Roberts for the loan of their sheep for Saturday’s event.
Opens winner Stacey Ta Huia who has seen plenty of sheds and show pavilions in his time - you don’t break a speed shearing record for no reason - commented on how well presented the sheep were in a testament to the flock handed over by the Roberts family.
The Quick Shear is only possible thanks to the support of sponsors which this year included major sponsors T Phillips Shearing, the Family hotel, Roberts Hillside Texels and Glovers Sheep Services.
