Menzies’ generous donation put to good use
The Elouera Special School in Cootamundra provides education and supports to students with a disability from Kinder to Year 12. It is one of only two independent special schools in country NSW.

Tomorrow we are opening the Menzies Playground, a fully equipped area that will not only be great fun but assist with fine motor skills and socialisation.
We even have a roundabout and net swing to allow those in a wheel chair to be fully involved.
In 2012 the school was the recipient of a very generous bequest from Mr Arthur Menzies, and these funds have been invested.
The playground was purchased with dividends from our Menzies investment and a loan that will be paid off over the next four years from the same source. It is vital that any bequest be dealt with in this way so many generations of students benefit from the generosity of others.
The dividends have been put towards other improvements at our school which have included a new bus and lunch area in the junior school and many maintenance items.
The Art Show will be held on Thursday, March 5 at 1pm with the opening of the playground at 2pm. We will also be launching of a fundraising campaign to raise funds for an all weather cover over the playground. It is facilities like these along with our great staff and students that make our school so special.

Paul Dooner Cup
Dear editor,
This Saturday the inaugural Paul Dooner Cup will be played at Les Boyd Oval between Cootamundra and Camden.
Kick off is at 6.30pm with the bar and BBQ in action.
As previously reported the match will be played to remember and honour the late Paul Dooner who lost his life to suicide. Paul played for both Camden and Cootamundra calling Coota home for two years.
Gate takings on the evening (gold coin donation) will be donated to Cootamundra Rotary for the mental health awareness forum to be held in May.
Cootamundra Rugby League Football Club have had several fundraising days over the last few years and for our local Can Assist cancer organisation and the oncology appeal.
The 6.30pm kick off should allow cricket fans to make their way to Les Boyd Oval if they wish following grand final commitments and our local league fans and sports fans to come and have a look at this year’s team.
It looks as though a few under 18s will make first grade appearances as a reward for their efforts in pre-season training.
Coaches Aaron Byrne and Luke Berkrey will select the team for this trial based on training efforts. Numbers have been excellent at training with plenty of competition for positions.
A large crowd is hoped for to help the trial concept a success and an annual event between the two clubs.
Presentations will be held in the Wal Galvin Clubrooms at the conclusion of the game. All players and supporters are encouraged to attend.
We’re also looking forward to next week’s nine’s carnival which has attracted 12 men’s teams and two ladies teams. Men play from 11am and ladies play from 12pm. We still need voluntary BBQ cookers and gatekeepers so please contact me if you can help for an hour or two.
