Fun for carnival hosts

The park was packed with 300 students from 12 schools across the region from Lake Cargelligo to Tumut and many towns in between. 

It was a primary carnival for students from kindergarten to year six showing their skills in various disciplines including running (both individual races and relay races), long jump and high jump.

Of the hundreds of kids in attendance on the day, Sacred Heart had a strong contingent of 40 students competing.  

Pleasingly, the Junior Boys and Girls Relay teams both won their events.

The Boys Relay team was made up of Sam Sharman, Jed Guthrie, Toby Rumble and James Patterson, while getting the job done for the girls were Madeleine Brown, Nicola Gale, Lilly Deep and Francesca Scott.

Well done to each of these students on their great teamwork and effort throughout the day.

Sacred Heart Central School’s Ben Rumble was named Senior Boy runner up after an exceptional day across all disciplines.

The school now has 13 students going on to compete at the next level in Canberra later this year.

The students will line up at premier venue, the Australian Institute of Sport, against other students from across the archdiocese which stretches out to include the South Coast and Goulburn area. 

With so many students on hand, the school did a seamless job creating a flow of events all day.

Teachers and parent volunteers were ably assisted by a number of year 10 students who put their hands up to help out across the course of the day. 

These students held the high jump bar and raked the long jump sandpit, among other activities. 

The day does allow points to be tallied with each student’s individual results combining to give a whole-school total. 

St Mary's Young was the overall winner on the day with the handicap trophy belonging to Adelong. 

The handicap trophy allows schools with smaller student populations to still compete for a title at the end of the day.
