This yardage reduction is put down to the 40 to 70mm of rain received across the district the three days prior to sale day.
With a good contingent of buyers on the rail, they operated in a market that was up to $20./head dearer for new season lambs with old lambs between $10 and $14 up from the previous sale. Mutton prices were firm to slightly dearer.
The sale was made up of:
- 2455 Lambs
- 998 Ewes
- 676 Wethers
- 397 Suckers
- 113 Hoggets
- 42 Old Sheep
- 38 Rams
Top price pen of the day went to Noel Corby of Stockinbingal, with an outstanding pen of XB Lambs that had an estimated CW of 27.5kg.
Carrying an $11 jacket they were knocked down to Junee Abattoirs, after very spirited bidding for $184 to come back at $6.30/kg CW.
Most old season lambs averaged between $5.70 and $6/kg CW.
Top price new season lambs were supplied by Dennis Rosen of Young with a pen of XB suckers that fetched $160.
With an estimated 23kg CW and an $11.00 skin they came back at $6.47/kg CW.
These were bound for Woolworths supermarket shelves.
Most new season lambs came back at between $6.40 and $6.60/kg CW.
Mutton numbers were well back and of mixed quality, with most prices very solid on the last sale.
Medium weights sold from $80 to $124 with the odd pen of heavy weights making $130 per head.
Most mutton averaged $3.80 to $4.30/kg CW.
