Barry was a very loyal and strong figure in both the junior and senior Cootamundra Bulldogs Rugby League Clubs.
He passed away on October 3, aged 77 years.
A Life Member of the Junior League Club, Barry’s contribution was recognised with the naming of one of the fields adjacent to Nicholson Park in his honour.
The other fields are named after Ned Miller and Michael Dabin.
All three were instrumental in keeping the club up and running when their kids were young, and beyond, leaving a strong foundation for the committee of today to build on.
Speaking about Barry, Ned said “He was always willing to help out”.
“He was very good at what he did,” Ned said.
He recalled Barry would often be at home games with good mates Matt Perry, Ken Bell, John Doidge and Bill Woods – between them a veritable treasure trove of football knowledge.
Footy compatriot Bernard Powderly left a heartfelt message on social media, demonstrating the regard with which Barry was held.
“I had the pleasure of serving on the Bulldogs committee for over 10 years with him (Barry). Rugby league will be poorer for his passing,” Bernard expressed.
Such has been Barry’s involvement in league, at both junior and senior level, all former players, committee and supporters have been asked to form a guard of honour at the conclusion of today’s funeral.
Barry will be farewelled in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 2pm today.
Condolences to his wife Pat, his family and his extended Bulldogs family, on Barry’s passing.
