Mrs Smith has been a volunteer at Cootamundra Public School for over a year.
She is at the school each day assisting librarian Gael Millar in the daily operations of the library.
Principal Bill Godman said often people who go about their business quietly are not recognised so he was thrilled that in this case someone who does offer the school a substantial contribution of time has been honoured.
The awards aim to recognise, celebrate and support those promoting literacy in Riverina communities.
She was presented with her award at a celebration morning tea held at the Wagga City Library on Tuesday.
