Wagga United’s first grade men’s squad has played seven games, and will need to play three, or possibly four catch-up games, depending on whether round eight is written off altogether.
Games scheduled to be played on Rawlings Park and Gissing Oval were called off due to the condition of the grounds, and the heightened risk of injury.
Wagga City Wanderers games were postponed, Football Wagga junior games were cancelled, and senior games were postponed.
On Saturday morning members from all Wagga clubs attended a walkover of Rawlings Park to determine whether the junior games were to go ahead.
Football Wagga president Erwin Budde said there were large pools of standing water, the ground was soft, especially in key playing areas such as the centre circle and goal mouths, and the playing surface was slippery.
“There was not a single field at Rawlings Park which was playable,” Budde said.
At the Showgrounds South Wagga hosted Lake Albert’s Pascoe team on Saturday night, Young’s Madden team and Henwood Park’s Leonard team on Sunday morning.
Junee played Cootamundra’s Gardiner side at Burns Park and Cootamundra hosted Tumut’s Pascoe side at O’Connor Park.
Blake Trophy games were cancelled.
