Cootamundra Swimming & Lifesaving club report, June 29, 2016

The swimmers had the opportunity to meet and get an autograph and photo with Australian Dolphins team member Jarrod Killey who swam the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle at the Hancock Prospecting Australian Championships.

What a successful day was had by all the swimmers.

Many of these swimmers had not swum at the AIS before and the thought of it was rather daunting for some.

After the warm-up the nerves settled a little, the swimmers hit the water with enthusiasm and determination to do their best.

Every swimmer gained PBs in nearly all their events throughout the afternoon.

Swimmer of the meet was Madeleine Brown who swam a massive five PBs taking 28 seconds off her 100 backstroke time, which gained her a first in this event, and 13 seconds off her 50 backstroke time.

Isobel Cram (our little pocket rocket) had a nervous start to the meet, but came away with PBs in her 50 backstroke and 25 butterfly, gaining a third place.

Abbey Gammon achieved credible PBs in her 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle and I am sure if we had had a previous time for her 100 freestyle, she would have smashed it, as this was the swim of the meet.

Bella Leggett had a really good meet and surprised herself in a couple of her races.

Her 50 breastroke was a 2.23 second PB, 50 backstroke 4.71 and a creditable 55.43 second swim in the 50 freestyle saw her come away with a 5.97 second PB.

Charli Leggett swam her heart out and gave her all to every race.

This saw her achieve a 10 second PB in her 100 freestyle, a six second PB in her 50 backstroke and five seconds off her 50 freestyle time.

Charlie also PB’d in her other two events.

All the swimmers came away from the day very proud of what they had achieved and eager for the next Meet on Sunday, July 24 at the AIS.
