Market report: Wednesday, June 29

This was a decrease of approximately 1800 from the previous sale.

Due to the recent cold weather the quality was not quite as good as previous sales.

Light lambs were in good numbers, with trade weight and heavy lambs in limited supply.

The sale was made up of:

A good field of buyers was in attendance although some only acted spasmodically and were quality driven.

Light processing lambs ranged between $74 and $104 to be $5 cheaper.

Medium trade lambs made between $123 and $155, with the better finished lambs keenly sought after to be $3 to $5 up on the last sale.

Heavy lambs were the big improver with prices ranging from $150 to a top of $180, up $5 to $10.

Top price for the day went to new vendor to the Cootamundra Saleyards Jamie Humphries of Temora.

He presented an excellent pen of XB lambs with an estimated CW of 28kg.

With a $10 jacket they came back at $6.10/kg CW and were knocked down to Southern Meats Goulburn after spirited bidding.

Most trade carcase weights averaged between $6.40 and $6.60/kg CW, with these prices very much in line with other regional NSW saleyards.

Mutton numbers were also back from previous sales and prices were generally firm. With mutton also winter affected quality also slipped.

Light mutton made between $60 and $80, medium mutton made between $80 and $100 and heavy XB ewes made up to $140.

Most mutton made $4 to $4.20/kg CW.

Cootamundra Associated Agents advice the next sale will be a cattle sale next Thursday, July 7 commencing at 9.30am.

Bookings for this sale should be made by close of business on Tuesday, July 5.

The next sheep sale will be Wednesday, July 13 commencing at 10am.
