However, it was a very sombre feeling around the club when the Blues learnt on Saturday that Luke Hill had passed away in tragic circumstances.
Luke Hill, who hailed Naracoorte in South Australia, played four matches for the club, the most recent match being against ADFA/RMC at RMC on June 4.
The players, committee, and supporters of the Blues pass on our condolences to the Luke’s family.
Last Saturday’s round of matches saw no surprises with the possible exception of Batemans Bay travelling up to Rockley Oval and smashing the Googong Hogs by 169 points.
The closest of three matches was at RMC where the home side defeated Woden Blues by 29 points.
In the final match at Goodhew Park – the Goulburn Swans put up a spirited effort but went down to Molonglo by 47.
The Blues play Molonglo at Stirling tomorrow and the way the Juggernauts have played over the past month with four wins, they could be a strong contender come finals time.
Molonglo are in second spot with seven wins and two losses.
Interesting that a number of former Blues playing with other clubs performed well last Saturday - Matt Knagge, Roy Jaques, and Toby Johnston were listed in their team’s best six players.
Matt Knagge playing seniors for Ganmain Grong Grong Matong defeated Turvey Park by 74, Matt picked up over 20 disposals.
Roy Jaques playing for Henty in the Hume League was instrumental in Henty defeating archrivals Culcairn by 18.
While down in the Central Highlands Football League, a Ballarat based competition, former Blue Toby Johnston was listed in Clunes best players as his team went down to Skipton by three points.
Well, the Hawks unexpectedly moved to the top of the AFL ladder for the first time since 2014. The Hawks win over Gold Coast and Geelong‘s shock loss to St Kilda, puts the Hawks into top spot. Round 15 started last night with West Coast playing Essendon. In the remaining five matches, Port should defeat Richmond at the Adelaide Oval; Gold Coast could break an 11 match-losing streak should they defeat St Kilda at Metricton Stadium. Carlton should return to the winners’ circle to knock over Collingwood, while Adelaide should conquer Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
