Cootamundra-based Manildra Meat Company has lost its contract to process lamb for Woolworths to the Junee Abattoir.

A spokesperson for the supermarket giant confirmed today that following a competitive process, Junee Abattoir has won the contract to process lamb for Woolworths stores across New South Wales
“Junee Abattoir will commence the supply of fresh lamb to our NSW stores from January 2017,” the spokesperson said.
He said Woolworths has had a longstanding relationship with Cootamundra’s abattoir.
“We thank the Cootamundra team and will work with them through the transition period.”
The spokesperson said Woolworths is pleased to be able to announce it is committed to keeping its NSW lamb processing in the Riverina for another 10 years.
Manildra Meat Company has moved to allay concerns over the future of the plant with a spokesperson for the company saying the decision by Woolworths provides Manildra with the opportunity to expand their domestic and export business.
“Manildra Meat Company’s capital investment projects continue which allows us to expand our brand range and markets,” the spokesperson said.
