The Cootamundra and District Country Education Fund handed out a combined $27,000 to young people in the community at a function held on Thursday evening, January 19.

The fund supports young people for two years with beneficiaries for the 2016/17 academic years being Jessica Edwards, Ben Jackson, Aimee Kostrubic, Adam Martin, Georgie Sutherland and Jamin White.
Beneficiaries for 2017/18 are Maddison Baker, Megan Chau, Shaun Flint, Alison Gilpin, Kya Godbier, Georgia Gregg and Timothy Rees.
Cootamundra’s Education Fund was established in 2008, sponsored by Laurie Cowled, who remains a Gold Sponsor and Patron of the fund today.
Since its inception, the fund has given away well in excess of $100,000 to more than 60 young people.
The fund is not only for those going on to tertiary education, people undertaking apprenticeships or another forms of further education are also eligible.
To be eligible for funding young people must go to school in Cootamundra or reside in the former Cootamundra Shire area.
Recipients are also eligible for further grants to assist them in their future from the Country Education Foundation of Australia.
The foundation is pleased to report a 90 per cent success rate since 2008 of people going on to complete their chosen courses.
This year’s crop of talented students were described by the selection panel as the “best ever” as word spreads of the grants available from the fund and more young people take up the opportunity to apply.

Jessica Edwards: Entering her second year of a Bachelor of Animal Science at CSU Wagga
Ben Jackson: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at the University of Wollongong. During a gap year last year, he has moved to Wollongong and obtained a part-time job.
Aimee Kostrubic: Completed an Advanced Diploma of Fashion and Style at the Australian Institute of Creative Design in 2016. She is now living on the Gold Coast and manages a ladies fashion store while pursuing a career in female fashion design.
Adam Martin: Entering his second year of a double degree in Engineering (Honours) and Mathematics at University of Wollongong. Last year he achieved seven distinctions and one credit.
Georgie Sutherland: Entering her second year of a Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Melbourne.
Jamin White: Undertaking an apprentice as a motor mechanic at a local business.
Maddison Baker: Enrolled Nursing at TAFE, a one year course.
Megan Chau: Bachelor of International Studies/Bachelor of Law at University of NSW. After being named Dux of Cootamundra High School last year, this will be her first of five years at university.
Shaun Flint: Agricultural Technicians course at TAFE, this year being his first of the three year course.
Alison Gilpin: Bio-nano Technology at the University of Wollongong, a four year course setting her on a path to a career developing new medical treatment devices.
Kya Godbier: Bachelor of Medical and Health Sciences at University of Wollongong, a three year course.
Georgia Gregg: Bachelor of Creative Arts and Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Wollongong.
Timothy Rees: Bachelor of Social Science (Pathology) at ANU with a plan to work as a psychologist or police profiler.
