Last Friday’s announcement the plant would close as of this Friday, February 24 sent shockwaves through the community.
Former local Matthew Tutty is the founder of Resumes to You, a national online resume service, and is offering his support and business services free of charge to all sacked workers.
“This story really touched my heart,” Mr Tutty said.
He said he is aware that some workers would have spent years at the abbatoir, working under various owners, and may not even have a resume.
He is hoping to support sacked workers as they enter the workforce by way of a resume review, resume update or writing a resume for those who do not have one.
Mr Tutty said knowing the impact the closure will have on the town and that he had the skills to help prompted him to put his hand up.
“It was the right thing to do,” he said.
Mr Tutty’s background is in recruitment, human resources and training.
He said that up to half of positions vacant in small communities are filled through an informal network rather than formally being advertised.
“Word of mouth is a very powerful tool in a small community and people love to help others in need,” he said.
Any employee who needs help or guidance can get in contact with Mr Tutty via email at info@resumestoyou.com.au, phone on 1300 761 626 or find Resumes To You on Facebook.
