Wallendbeen CWA were very pleased to present six Wallendbeen students with educational grants, the funds forwarded from Phillip Group, a city CWA group, who donate funds to support country school students.
International Women's Day was celebrated on Wednesday, and seven members from Wallendbeen attended the Hume group council meeting and Handicraft Day, at Junee.
International Women's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, recognising the achievements of women, without regard for divisions. The theme for 2017 is "Women in the Changing World of Work".
Members were sad to farewell our member Lorraine; we wish her well, as she leaves Cootamundra.
International officer Ann intrigued members with facts about Nepal, with the many traditional costumes, each ethnic group having its own traditional dress. The women in one group wear shawls and blouses, the striking feature being the decorative pieces of jewellery. Another group the colours are predominantly red and black. The Nepali weddings can extend up to four days
Agricultural officer Sue discussed the increasing wool market, and spoke of the horrific bushfires during the summer. Wallendbeen CWA will be forwarding $300 to assist the women in the affected areas.
Our very successful stall in December raised much needed funds for the branch with Ken Jacobs being the raffle winner. Congratulations were extended to member Louanda Hardie, on the birth of two grandchildren.
The March meeting will be held in the Wallendbeen Memorial Hall on Tuesday, March 14 at 2pm.
Hostesses for the day are R Bradford, C Buchanan and E Bassingthwaighte.
