On Friday, May 5, Cootamundra Hospital celebrated all that its midwives contribute by hosting a luncheon in honour of International Midwives Day.
The luncheon was attended by staff as well as recent new mums, dads and their bubs.
Cootamundra Hospital has six lovely midwives, led by Sue McGlynn, who last year were part of delivering 80 babies.
Mrs McGlynn described it as “an honour” to help introduce new life into the world.
The cake, made by new dad and Outback Bakery baker Josh McCarthy was cut by midwives Andrea Peacey and Bianca Jones.
Andrea has been in the job for a year and a half after joining the Cootamundra Hospital five years ago, while Bianca, after seven years at the hospital is their newest student of midwifery.
Across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, there are 140 midwives and in 2016 they assisted in the birth of about 2050 babies across the region.
This year, the International Confederation of Midwives selected the theme ‘Midwives, Mothers and Families: Partners for Life’.
Meanwhile, Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson is calling on residents to nominate a local nurse or midwife in the fifth annual Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards.
