“I love my coffee but I realised I was sending hundreds of cups to landfill,” she said. “That’s why I started bringing my own mug, it’s a simple change and it’s nicer to drink from a real mug.”
Australia’s wasteful habits have made headlines this year, from Riverina supermarkets banning plastic bags and The Project’s “Ban The Bag” campaign to ABC presenter Craig Reucassel’s new War On Waste series.
“The problem is they have a plastic lining on the inside that can’t be recycled, but we spoke to so many people who didn’t know that,” Mr Reucassel told Fairfax Media.
“They’re one of those things you use for five minutes then chuck out… we’re becoming a throwaway society.”
