Southern District horses made almost half of the field in the $40,000 Benchmark 67 Handicap (1550m) at Canterbury.
The Chris Heywood-trained Leucura ended up starting the $3.10 favourite and ran home fairly to finish in third place for apprentice Nick Heywood, 2.3 lengths behind winner Balius ($6.00).
Gundagai stayer Zero To Ten ($11.00) battled on for fifth place, while Tim Donnelly’s Kiwi import Soleado ($8.00) struggled and finished 14 lengths behind the winner in sixth place.
The third placing continued a consistent preparation from Leucura.
