It will also be the last time this season both the men’s and women’s teams play on Clarke Oval on the same day.
Many former players are making the journey back to Cootamundra for the weekend to share memories from 25 years ago when the Blues first graders defeated RAAF and 20 years ago when reserves defeated Marrar.
Andy Ingold, who was a member of the 1997 premiership side, together with current Blues president Todd Basham have been the driving forces behind the reunion and this week, Basham indicated he is expecting 10 players from the 1992 side and 15 from the 1997 side to join present-day supporters at Clarke Oval.
The 1992 side was coached by Gerald Maguire who took on the role three weeks before the season started.
On an ordinary day at Maher Oval, Wagga, the Blues won by 37 points booting 11-18- 84-to RAAF’s 6-17-53.
Gerald now lives in Western Australia. Meanwhile, Wayne De Britt coached the 1997 side. The Blues were challenged by Marrar that day, however prevailed by 16 points with the final score being 13-15-93 to 11-11-77.
This reunion follows a successful day for the club earlier this month when a Blues Old Boys team lined up to take on a ‘Future Hope’ charity side raising funds for former player Adam Barnes.
Women’s first bounce is 12pm Saturday against third-placed Belconnen with the men playing at 2pm.
After a forfeit from Tuggeranong last Saturday, the first-placed Blues will take on the Batemans Bay Seahawks (10th) this Saturday.
Last Saturday the Seahawks held the Yass Roos for three quarters before a final quarter capitulation saw them lose by 49.
Also last weekend, Woden thumped ANU Griffins by 75 points and Ainslie defeated the in-form Southern Cats by 11 points.
Woden moves into second spot and Cats drop to third.
Blues play Woden Sunday, August 6 in Canberra.
