Police have issued a scamming warning after a series of unfriendly emails hit Cootamundra households, raising significant community concern.
It marks the second significant scam scare in as many weeks after a string of unsolicited fake Telstra calls were reported last Wednesday.
Cootamundra LAC crime manager Scott Wilkinson said multiple residences in town had received fake infringement notices over the past 24 hours.
“We have been receiving a number of phone calls in relation to this email currently circulating the area,” he said.
“It’s probably the usual phone-generated stuff but people seem to be sensible enough not to open it.”
Police services confirmed the link was a scam via their Facebook page, with the post being shared over 50 times.
“Please do not click on the link, it is a SCAM. Just delete the email and if you are having issues please contact scamwatch,” the post stated.
“Quite a few people in Young have reported the scam,” Detective Inspector Wilkinson added.
“We would encourage people to exercise caution online and be alert for messages such as this.”
