The state government has handed Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council a cool $1.7 million to spend around the region.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke presented mayor Abb McAlister, deputy mayor Dennis Palmer and councillors Charlie Sheahan and Craig Stewart with the funds on Monday.
The money comes from the government’s Stronger Communities Fund.
Cr McAlister said the funding will allow some great projects to be undertaken with the council area.
"This is great, we can now fund some really great infrastructure and community projects that the whole council area will benefit from," Cr McAlister said.
A large playground for teenagers will be constructed for $499,000 at Jubliee Park along with shelter and a picnic area.
Another $375,593 will be shared between Wallendbeen, Stockinbingal and Nangus.
Wallendbeen will receive “rage cages” for sports, a new playground with a softball surface and a multi-station fitness centre for
Stockinbingal will receive a BMX track and playground upgrade while Nangus’ playground will be improved.
Up to $300,000 will be spent on a Gundagai playground and fitness centre.
A further $603,445 will be shared amongst Cootamundra Racecourse for its grandstand, Cootamundra Tennis and its Hot Shots program, Cootamundra AFL for its clubrooms, Gundagai Scouts, Gundagai Tigers, Gundagai RSL and the Coolac-Tumblong rail trail development plan.
“It’s absolutely wonderful,” Ms Cooke said.
“I’m proud to be part of a government that is managing its finances so well that there is money to be spent in small communities, particularly on projects like this.”
