NSW RFS South West Slopes Zone district co-ordinator Tom McDevitt said volunteers were called at 11.55am and
Inspector McDevitt said fierce wind conditions, which led to a dust storm blanketing parts of the district, meant brigades were placed on high alert.
“It was good work by our volunteers, it was a rapid response to what could have been a catastrophic incident,” he said.
“There’s rural-residential properties scattered around Turners Lane and had the fire not been controlled quickly it would have the potential to impact property.”
Inspector McDevitt said at the height of the blaze there were six tankers working to bring the blaze under control.
The fire was under control by 12.19pm on Sunday.
