SATURDAY was a history-making day for the Coota Blues - for the first time in nearly two decades; they won both games of football at Clarke Oval against the Woden Blues.

The girls started the day for the Blues winning 5-6-36 to 1-2-8, their win was only their second in a season-and-half of football.
The boys defeated the undefeated Woden side in a cracker of a match by 14 points - 15-8-98 to 12-12-84.
The star for the Blues was on-baller Jimmy Finucane, who put in a master class performance in the third quarter booting four goals in 12 minutes – two of his goals were from outside the 50-metre arc.
The Blues started slowing and were down by 19 points at the first change and the long break the margin was 13 points.
With Finucane’s heroics, the Blues slammed home 7 –5 to 1-0 in the third quarter which saw the Blues take a handy lead 28 point lead at the last change.
Although outscored in the last quarter, five goals to three, the Blues scored a memorable victory over Woden who was last season’s runner up in the AFL Canberra division three.

After five matches, the Blues are 2-3 and sit in seventh place.
The fact that three of those matches have been against last year’s grand finalists, is a good start to playing in a higher grade.
Next Saturday there is a general bye in AFL Canberra – on Saturday week, the Blues host Molonglo who are the new competition leaders.

THE Blues women’s side scored a great win over Woden.
The Blues were expected to put in a bold showing, as the Woden side were new to the competition.
The Blues won the match 5-6-36 to 1-2-8. Woden did not score until 13th minute of the third quarter.
The girls led by 22 points at half-time and booted another two goals in the final quarter to win by 28 points.
One of the stars for the Blues was Taylor Vander Zwan, who hails from the US, and racked plenty of posessions in a dominate display.
The girls play Molonglo in their next match who are yet to win a match.
