That’s how Cootamundra Strikers co-coach Adam McPhail described the first grade men’s team performance against South Wagga on Sunday.
The Strikers scored three goals to seal their second win and McPhail said it was thanks to an effort from the entire team.
“We gave them no chance to get comfortable with the ball and then in attack, everyone kept moving,” he said.
McPhail said the way forward for the team was now clear.
“We know what kind of team we want to be and what kind of team we can be. We’ve displayed it in patches, it’s now about stringing it together,” he said.
During the game Scott Endacott scored his first as part of the Strikers’ first grade side.
“It’s been coming, he’s just 16 – he dominates in training and we’re getting him to bring it to the weekend games,” McPhail said.
“He’s looking like a first grade player. South Wagga were marking him and keeping an eye on him.
“That’s pretty good for a 16-year-old to have that impact on a game.”
Nick Ashe was named man of the match for his efforts guiding the team from centre-back.
“He was vocal, winning challenges and directing play,” McPhail said.
“It allows everyone else to go forward and know they can press ahead without looking back without too much worry."
McPhail also praised Steve Armstrong who returned from suspension, “he was very impressive and he’s a safe pair of hands [in defence]”.
The Strikers’ co-coach scored the team’s other two goals and McPhail said he was just “doing his job” and taking the opportunities when they were created.
“Dylan Berkrey did all the work for the second goal, I just turned up,” he said.
On Sunday, Brenton Forsyth returned for the Strikers after injury, however an appearance this weekend is doubtful.
“He recovered from a knee injury and with 20 minutes to did the hamstring. He’s a big part of the team and it will hurt us,” McPhail said.
The Strikers host Leeton United at O’Connor Park on Sunday.
