The rain, though needed by the farming community, arrived at the wrong time for the Cootamundra lawn bowls program last weekend. The Grade 6 South West District Pennant playoffs were scheduled for play at Cootamundra Ex-Services Club. Country Club had to play the first game against Gundagai on Saturday afternoon and it all began in drizzling rain. Gundagai were too strong for Country Club, winning two of the three rinks and the aggregate. Graeme Worboys' team (with Des Guthrie, John O'Loughlin and Bernie Stephens) salvaged a little bit of pride for Country Club by winning their rink.

Gundagai went on to win the final on Sunday afternoon. On the home front, one major singles semi-final was decided on Tuesday. Brad Lange had a hard fought victory which took him to 38 ends of play before defeating Don Manwaring 31-26. Three games of social play were also hotly contested. R. Williams and J. Malone won the last two ends to defeat G. Hagan and P. Rasmussen for 15.5 points. C. Miller, E. Jarrott and J. Cooper defeated K. Medcalf, R. Cleveland and B. Gibson for 16 points. Trophy winners were C. Willis, W. Chater and K. Breasley (17.5 points), defeating A. Ward, D. O'Brien and G. Worboys.
