At 3pm on Monday, staff at Sureway Employment in Cootamundra’s main street noticed an unusual smell.
“And then I heard a loud bang,” Kristy Manning said.
Ms Manning, was the only person in Sureway’s office as the smell of smoke began filling the room.
Cootamundra Fire and Rescue NSW attended and power to the building was switched off.
A thermal imaging camera was used to ensure the building was safe, with power later restored to the building.
One half of Parker Street between Bourke and Adams streets was reduced to one lane as firefighters worked to ensure there was no danger.
Fire and Rescue NSW Captain Les Carr urged residents to be aware of fire danger during winter.
“Keep clothes at least a metre away from heaters,” Captain Carr said.
