Members of the Cootamundra community have been shattered by the death of Hugh Roberts AM.

Mr Roberts, 77, died in hospital in Wagga on the weekend.
He was born at Hillside near Cootamundra and with his wife of 54 years, Jenny, they made their home at Birralee and raised their son Justin. From Birralee, Mr Roberts built a registered seed business.
Mr Roberts was a Nuffield Scholar, worked as chairman of the Australian Grain Authority and worked with the Australian Crop Accreditation System.
He also spent many years with NSW Farmers Association and as a Cootamundra Shire Councillor.
In 2006, Mr Roberts was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia for service to the grains industry through cereal seed research, and to the community of Cootamundra.
Phil Quarmby said he’d known Mr Roberts for 40 years through the Cootamundra Lions Club
“He was one of those very good men. I never heard him say anything bad about anybody,” Mr Quarmby said.
Mr Quarmby said he and club were shattered at the news.
“It’s left a huge void in the club. He was so meticulous with everything he did,” he said
“He was was one of those presidents who was inclusive, he made everyone feel as though they were an integral part of the club.”
Mr Quarmby said Mr Roberts had been a dedicated member of the club and was able to make people feel at ease with a great sense of humour.
“He was a real giver, he gave to the club and when he did something, he did something well.”
Mr Quarmby said Mr Roberts was modest person and didn’t seek the limelight.
Fellow Lions member Charlie Sheahan described Mr Robert was “genuine down to earth fellow”.
“He was always available to discuss anything and give advice, he was a wonderful man,” Mr Sheahan said.
“He’ll be sorely missed.”
Mr Roberts is survived by his wife and son.
Funeral arrangements are to be announced.
