It’s been six years since a rodeo has been held at the Cootamundra Rodeo Grounds, and Francis Ross wants to make sure it’s a success come October.
The rodeo committee have installed improved barriers around the arena which have been tested already this year with several gymkhanas and barrel racing events.
Ross said the Cootamundra Rough Stock Rodeo was set down for October 6.
There will be bareback horse riding, saddle broncs, bull-riding and barrel racing.
There will be novice events for saddle broncs and bull-riding.
The first Cootamundra Rodeo since 2012 will be sanctioned by Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo Association.
For each open event there’s $1200 prizemoney, with $800 for novice events, Ross said the prizes would be supplemented as more entries are received for the event.
Organisers are seeking expressions of interest from community and sporting groups to assist with the event.
Groups would be running the gate, catering and bar services for the patrons on October 6.
Expressions of interest in working with the rodeo can be emailed to cootamundra.rodeo@gmail.com.au, with a closing date for August 31.
