Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council staff joined with the RSL members to plant the tree in the War Memorial Teardrop section of Cootamundra’s Albert Park to also mark the end of the four year commemoration period – 1914-1918.
The Aleppo Pine is a direct descendant from the Turkish Pines that stood on the World War One battlefield near Anzac Cove on the Turkish Peninsular.
Cootamundra RSL Sub Branch president Garry James said the tree planting was an extension to work already underway in the War Memorial Teardrop section.
The area will combine all monuments and additional memorials to Australian war campaigns.
