As the Cootamundra High School class’s “boy captain”, David Ward had the task of finding his former classmates and gathering them together.
Despite having left school 60 years ago, the class has never had a reunion.
Mr Ward, who now lives in Melbourne, put on his sleuthing cap and set to work on finding everyone.
“Despite the passage of six decades, I have located 18 of the 21 students in that class,” Mr Ward.
Two of the students have passed away and only one, Ann Deep, has not been located.
However, Mr Ward said organisers have recently been told that Ann might be living somewhere north of Sydney.
It is not much of a clue, but since Mr Ward was able to track down one former classmate by leaving a message at a pub in a small town, it might just be enough.
Mr Ward said some classmates had been easy to find as they still had links to Cootamundra.
To find others, he turned to the internet and for the more elusive, he got quite creative.
“Sometimes it was a case of friends of friends of friends of friends who knew something,” Mr Ward said.
The reunion will be held on October 20 and 21, to coincide with the Cootamundra Show.
Classmates will meet for drinks at 3.30pm on Saturday, October 20, at the Cootamundra Country Club, where they will also have dinner.
From 11am on Sunday, October 21, they will have a tour of Cootamundra High School.
“We were the first final year students to move into the new school buildings,” Mr Ward said.
Organisers also hoping to take a photo which recreates, as closely as possible, their 1958 school photo.
