The cranes were positioned at the construction site to lift the steel roof trusses in place for the new amenities block at the home ground for the Cootamundra Rugby Club.
According to the Cootamundra-Gundegai Regional Council, the new building will not only service the needs of the rugby seniors and juniors but incorporate new toilet facilities and provide a building suitable for use by wider community groups.
Cootamundra-Gundagai mayor Abb McAlister said he was pleased the project was progressing.
“This will be a major facility for all who use the Country Club Oval, from senior players to juniors, school groups and others,” he said.
“These are the amenities we need to attract and foster sporting groups to our region.”
The ground floor will have two sets of change rooms for both male and female players and the referee, each including showers and toilets.
The ground level will also have separate toilets accessible to the public from the outside and upstairs will include a clubhouse area, toilets and kiosk.
The block’s exterior will feature a covered viewing area and an uncovered tiered seating area.
The project is valued at $570,000 with $350,000 coming from the NSW government’s Stronger Communities Fund..
Other funding sources include $120,000 from Cootamundra Senior and Junior Rugby Clubs, $20,000 from sponsors and the council will also contribute $80,000 from the Public Toilet Fund.
Cootamundra MP Steph Cooke MP said she was delighted to see the progress of the project and looked forward to the completion.
“This is a great project, not only for the Cootamundra Rugby Club, but also for visitors and residents,” she said.
“New public toilets and better sporting infrastructure will enhance the future of rugby in the region.”
