Don and Janet Elliott shared many stories of their childhood in the area, and everyone admired the workmanship of the old gold mining chimney, built without any modern equipment and still standing tall.
Gold was discovered at Muttama Reefs in the 1850s and a thriving town developed there complete with pubs, shops, boarding houses and so on.
Muttama itself and Brawlin were also busy little towns.
