WAGGA have proven too strong for Cootamundra in round two of the Stribley Shield match played at Robertson Oval, Wagga, on Sunday. Winning the toss and batting, the Cootamundra side were bowled out in the 37th over for 147, while Wagga cruised to victory in the 36th finishing with 3-151. The best with the bat for Cootamundra was Adam Twford with 39 and Matt Berkrey with 37. At the back end of the innings, David Garness scored a breezy 18. Twyford and Berkrey added 56 runs for the third wicket. It was a disappointing batting card for Cootamundra as four of their batsman failed to score. Young Harry Rosengren was Wagga’s star with the ball, capturing 5-51 from his ten overs. Set the moderate total 148 runs for victory, Rosengren capped off a fine match scoring 39 runs as an opener. Then, Adam Newcombe with 42 not out, and Jon Nicholl with 30 not out, added 80 runs for the fourth wicket. With a clash against Goulburn next month to complete the pool stage, Nicoll has set his sights on claiming another home final. "We've got ourselves in a good position to make the final and if we can win in Goulburn then we will definitely get a home final,” Wagga’s Nicoll said. "We're pretty determined to get a home final again this year." He was impressed with Rosengren’s effort. "He bowled really well in really dry conditions,” Nicoll said. "It was perfect for the slow guys to take away the game. "He did really well then made 40 with the bat so he had a day out.” **** IN THE other match played at Victoria Park in Yass, the home side recorded a big win over Goulburn. These two sides were playing against each other for first time since 1991 when they were both were a part of the Southern Districts competition. Yass scored 184 then routed Goulburn for just 104. CURRENT LADDER The final round is on January 20 with Cootamundra hosting Yass. The winner of this match will play Wagga in the final. Goulburn host Wagga in the other match.
