Some 260 passengers had to be looked after as the temperature soared to 37 degrees.
Cootamundra Police’s Inspector Frank Brown said due to the heat and inadequate space in the railway station ticket office for all passengers an alternative was needed.
Passengers were moved on to the Cootamundra Ex-Services Club with the use of the club’s courtesy bus and coaches.
Buses then replaced the train service to get passengers to Sydney.
The final bus left at 9.45pm after the initial incident occurred at 3.20pm.
