Sheep sale May 1, 2019 | Cootamundra Saleyards & Associated Agents

This was an increase of about 1200 on the previous sale.The market consisted of 2113 lambs, 96 hoggets, and 481 mutton sheep, 21 rams

In what agents described as record price for lambs at the Cootamundra Saleyards, price were up to $25 and some to $30 dearer for trade lambs than the previous sale.

As per usual, there was a good line up of buyers on the rail, and all very were keen to fill orders.

There was some feedlot activity, although the processor mainly out bid them.

Top price for the day went to Ashley Hermes, of Bethungra, with an outstanding pen of heavy weight XB lambs making $220.

With an estimated CW of 31kg and wearing a $6 coat, they came back at $7kg CW and went to Southern Meats Goulburn after spirited bidding.

Most 3 to 4 score trade lambs in the 20 to 24kg CW was where the big price increase was, and these lambs made between $8.10 to $8.50kg CW and some sales up to $9kg CW.

These prices are $1.40kg CW dearer than the previous sale.

The light trade weight bag lambs (14 to 18kg CW) were up to $8.80kg CW

Most of the heavier lambs 26kg plus were in the $6.80 to $7.20 bracket.

The mutton market, went along for the ride with prices also rising, $15 to $25.

Cam Hazlett, Jindalee, supplied some cast for age XB ewes that made $218.20

Most Mutton ranged in the $5.80 to $6.30kg CW.

The hogget market remains very strong with a top price of $203.

The quality of the stock sold at this sale was an absolute credit to the vendors and they are to be congratulated, especially considering the seasonal conditions.

The average price per head sold was $175.
