Mark officially retired on Friday, June 28, marking the end of his career as an automotive engineer in Cootamundra.
"It all began way back in January 1971, when Bob Jenkins gave me a start as an apprentice motor mechanic," Mark said.
After five years with Bob Jenkins Mark moved to Masling Airlines at the end of 1976 and was employed as an aircraft engineer until October 1980.
"I then went into partnership in my own business known as Budget Suspension and Exhaust, at the rear of where Elders are now in Parker St," Mark said.
"In July 1986, Susie and I opened as S.M. Auto Repairs at 51 Wallendoon St in Cootamundra, and have traded there ever since."
With close to half a century in the trade Mark has seen a lot of change.
"Over the last 49 years, I have seen many changes in technology and the way vehicles are produced with many innovative improvements for the better, but not in regard to the difficulty when it comes to accessing components," Mark said.

"The automotive trade was certainly a challenging one at times but an enjoyable one that has been kind to me over the years.
"I have met lots of great people and made many friends that I treasure.
"The one thing I will miss though, is seeing all my regular customers and associates that have supported our business over the years, and for that, Susie and I are truly grateful.
"It's now time to close the doors and the tool-box, and have some quality time away from work enjoying the good things in life.
"Many thanks again to all our loyal customers, your support over the years was truly appreciated," Mark and Susie said.
Despite retiring Mark said he intends to stay pretty active as president of the Cootamundra Cycle Club and a committee member for the Cootamunda Blues Aussie Rules Club.
