Customers of the Goldenfields Water County Council in the Riverina are the first in Australia to be able to use the app, which sets off an alert if water use goes abnormal.
In the Cootamundra region, the app will be available to 581 rural customers who have had smart meters installed as Goldenfields has progressively replaced non-digital meters.
It won't yet be available to townspeople, who are invoiced by the Cootamundra-Gundagai Council, a bulk customer of Goldenfields. The app was funded jointly by the federal government and Goldenfields, and launched by Riverina MP Michael McCormack.
