Blind Cootamundra resident Ross Fitzell said he and his guide dog Harry had been hit - fortunately not seriously - five times by traffic turning left because Harry can't read blinkers, and because drivers seem unaware that pedestrians have right of way at all intersections.

This was one of the more interesting facts to emerge from a combined Probus Club meeting at the Stephen Ward rooms last week, addressed by three Cootamundra police, officer-in-charge Inspector Frank Brown and Senior Constables Heidi Clancy and Luke Parsons.
Mr Fitzell said most of the incidents had occurred when he was crossing Temora Street, with traffic turning left from Parker which Harry couldn't predict the movements of.
The police covered subjects including the role of the highway patrol task force, domestic violence liaison and crime prevention, and senior safety on the roads.
They handed out information about restrictions for older drivers and things for them to be aware of, particularly that mobility scooters are classed as pedestrian vehicles and are not covered by insurance.
