Vic father digs deep to remember daughter

Morgan Mansell battled multiple rare health battles including CTLA-4 protein deficiency, multiple sclerosis, common variable immunodeficiency and melanoma.

She died in October.

"She was the best daughter a dad could wish for. She was somebody I took advice from, she was wise beyond her years. She was a go-getter," Peter Mansell said of his 25-year-old daughter.

The family is fundraising to honour Morgan's legacy.

"We also try to publicise that melanoma is the most common cancer in the 15-to-39-year-old group, making 20 per cent of all cancers," he said, adding it took just one cell to go rogue to cause cancer.

Mr Mansell is sharing Morgan's story for The Alfred's Father's Day Appeal which, aims to raise money for causes including trauma care and cancer.

Victorians are being asked to 'G1ve 4 Life' with donations made on Friday to be quadrupled thanks to generous partners chipping in for the cause.

"To all the parents out there, if you are lucky enough to have your own princess whether she is big or small to give them the biggest of cuddles on Sunday 'cause you just don't know what is around the corner," Mr Mansell said, holding back tears.

The fight doesn't stop there for the Mansell family whose 24-year-old son also suffers the same autoimmune and immunodeficiency diseases as Morgan.

His family has set up The Morgan Mansell Fund, which made its first grant of $20,000 to Alfred Health in July for research into melanoma and MS.
