Commonly known as SBAT's the initiative has been in schools for a long time, but not everyone knows how they work and what the benefits are for students and businesses.
Local Year 12 Cootamundra High School students Ky White, Trinity Slade, Zac Finnigan and Bree Lawson will complete their HSC this year with credentials giving them a great head start into their chosen careers.
Ky will complete a certificate III in engineering - fabrication whilst partnering with Spinifex Welding, Trinity a certificate III in retail operations with Jak and Jill, Zac a Certificate III in carpentry with Bryant Constructions and Bree a certificate II in business with ANZ Bank.
These Vocational Education (VET) subjects have contributed to their HSC pattern of study, along with the added bonus of valuable work place experience specific to their course.
Cath Alderman, careers adviser and relieving head teacher (teaching and learning) has nothing but praise for the program.
"It's about building strong partnerships with local business to create a young local workforce with a great skillset.
"It's also a great way of engaging students in their senior years of study by linking what they learn to the world of work."
Interested businesses and parents are warmly invited to an SBAT Information Session to be held at Cootamundra Services and Citizens Club Wattle Room next Tuesday, September 10, commencing at 5.45p.m.
Local school-based apprenticeships and traineeships students and their partner businesses will be joined by NSW State Training Services' Nathan Cooper to provide a run down on how the process works, followed by a Q&A session.
School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships are more than just part-time jobs - they're a great way to set yourself up for the career you want whilst you are completing your HSC.
School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships are available to all Year 10, 11 and 12 high school students in NSW. They allow students to commence an apprenticeship or complete a traineeship while at school.
A School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship combines paid work, training and school; and as well as an industry recognised national qualification you will gain credit towards the HSC.
Some apprenticeships and traineeships can contribute towards the ATAR.
Light refreshments will be available.
RSVP's can be made to Cootamundra High School's front office phone 6942 2711.
