Kookaburra's openers Dylan Vivian and Darian O'Toole returned serve to steer their side to victory with Vivian the top scorer on the day putting on 50 not out from just 40 balls faced.
Batting first Cockatoos blasted their way to 5/107 off 25 overs but after the opening stand from Guthrie and Paterson no other batsman was able to make it into double figures.
Best of the bowlers for Kookaburra's was Harvey Holt who took two wickets for 14 runs off four overs.
T Caldwell and Darion O'Toole finished with a wicket each.
Vivan and O'Toole showed that what Cockatoos could do they could also do, putting on an impressive opening stand of their own of 80 runs.
Other run makers for Kookaburras were Will Holt (4), Ted Caldwell (6), Sam Sharman (11) and Harvey Holt (7).
James Paterson (1/14), Sam Nasser (1/25), Jed Guthrie (1/2) and Lachlan Webb (1/4) took a wicket each.
