Cr. Leigh Bowden raised the issue at the last council meeting, in reference to item in the minutes of the Showground users' committee .
"The committee reported in September that its chairman had visited a family of campers residing at the Showgrounds," she said.
"It looks as if this family was actually living at the showground. They said they had paid for their stay, but someone had stolen the money they had placed in the honesty box.
"The chairperson said he'd been in contact with the family's caseworker and believed they were able to make the payment and seek alternate accommodation.
"My question is have we got any idea of the number of homeless people or people living in this kind of impermanent accommodation in in our area, and is there anything we can do about it?"
General manager Phil McMurray said he was not aware of any data but "we could certainly do a review of it and bring that matter back to council at the next workshop or available date".
