Six Rural Fire Service tankers were assisted by Cootamundra Fire and Rescue around 3.30 on Monday afternoon to quickly extinguish a grass fire in the Rathmells Lane area on the northern outskirts of town. Stronger winds arriving later in the afternoon showed how essential it was to have the heavy weight of attack and quick response, with several residences nearby. Around two hectares were burnt.
