Southcity moves into top spot with big win

Their 32-0 win over Kangaroos at Equex Centre on Saturday helped the Bulls go around Tumut on points differential.

The two teams face off at Twickenham in a fortnight, in a game which could determine the minor premiership.

Captain-coach Nathan Rose was caught unawares of their ladder rise.

However he's pleased with how the team is tracking.

"I don't really look at the later too much but it is nice to be on top," Rose said

"We've still got a tough month ahead of us so we have to focus on that and not the ladder.

"It will handle itself."

Kangaroos had plenty opportunities in the first half but struggled to make it count.

Instead a first half double to Jesse Fitzhenry helped the Bulls to a 16-0 lead at the break.

Southcity were able to continue on with the job in the second half.

"Roos had the majority of the ball to start the game so it as a credit to the boys who kept turning up," Rose said.

"Once we got into the groove we were able to get on top and control the game."

Kyle McCarthy stepped up and was able to control things for the Bulls.

His kicking game proved very influential

Rose was pleased with the team's attitude as they were able to turn the tide.

"Our attitude when things didn't go our way, whether they be penalties or errors, was really good," he said.

"We just kept turning up and it was good to see."

Southcity have the bye before the big clash with Tumut.

Rose is looking to use the week off to really build into the clash with Tumut taking a 44-28 win when the teams last met.

"It's not a bad time (for the bye) but we still have to put in the work over the bye weekend before a tough run ahead of finals," he said.

"It's a good time to freshen up."

Meanwhile Kangaroos are looking to turn around their fortunes.

The Wagga side has lost six of their last eight games to drop out of the top five for the first time this season.

They are set to tackle Albury on Sunday.

Scoring points has been their big issue.

They have managed just 10 points from their last four games and have been held scoreless twice.
